On Tuesday our A Level students performed a selection of pieces they have been developing for their exam. DLD’s theatre was ideal for this event. Its intimacy helps students cope with the nerves of having to perform and be examined at the same time! Beam started with her IFP recital, singing a selection of songs including an emotional rendition of ‘Memory’ form CATS. Simon followed this with a saxophone masterclass, playing Grovlez’s ‘Sarabande and Allegro’. Jewel played Ravel’s ‘Tombeau de Couperin’ with a sense of melancholy for an age long passed. YiYi performed her entire IFP recital engaging the audience with songs such as Eva Cassidy’s version of ‘Over the Rainbow’. Jimin’s interpretation of J S Bach’s Chromatic Fantasia on the piano was superb, showing a development of musical maturity well beyond that required by A level. Ella’s performance of the slow movement of Beethoven’s Sonata in C Minor was very accomplished and moving. In a change of mood, Jack demonstrated his advanced electric guitar skills, a highlight was ‘Albatross’ by Fleetwood Mac. Last but not least, Jonathan performed (singing and playing piano) ‘Start a Fire’ from the award winning film ‘La La Land’. What a superb performance! Thank you to all of DLD’s visiting music teachers for preparing their students so well, particularly to John-Paul for accompanying. Thank you to Yiannis, Mark and Ben for helping to set up the theatre.
