The River Thames outside DLD College London

FROM THE PRINCIPAL #213

20th September 24

It’s official – DLD is flourishing with the excitement of a new term, a new energy, a new school year. Week three into term often brings with it a settling period, however this has not halted the abundance of activities and talks that are in place for all our students. Whether it is the first competitive sports match of the season for our netball team, the Chemistry Challenge for our budding scientists, or choosing new CCAs for our students; it has been an motivating few weeks for everyone.

It was also a pleasure to invite London Metropolitan Police to DLD. Their delivery of the importance of being safe in London, and how to protect yourself was full of important messages and reminders for all our students, and I urge everyone to follow their advice.

A hugely positive start for all our students, and I congratulate them on the tone they have set for the year ahead. For our new students, as the gloss and shine of a new school becomes normality, I urge them to remember ‘the three-week brick wall’. That those moments of home sickness are acceptable, that feeling of not understanding a topic in lesson is normal, those questions around social friendships are still developing. All those thoughts and feelings are OK. More than OK, and everyone at DLD is here to support and assist. Therefore, I urge all students to use the excellent support network of our staff, and be open to a conversation.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Best wishes
Lauren Moors, Assistant Principal (Academic)
