This has been a vibrant and busy week at DLD College London with opportunities and learning coming in a variety of forms including cake sales, pancake races, waffle making, original print making, environmental business speaker, International Women’s Day celebrations and World Book Day. However, through all of them has come the theme of community, celebrating team work, and family, which are vital parts of who we are at DLD.
We continue to stand firm in our resolve to protect our sense of community and in our spirit as a true DLD family. Families often come into their own and are even more vitally important when times get tough. In families, small differences become pushed aside when it really matters, and we stand strong as a united team in which all of our members are valued equally and value others in return. We have all been conscious to show a bit more love in our DLD family this week, and I have been proud of the support that has been shown, especially between students.
This week we have been privileged to work with entrepreneur and local businessman, master hand-printer Russell Frost, who set up a live printing station in the atrium and worked with groups of students to showcase this traditional skill. We were also treated to a talk by Simon Pearson around the global interactions that produced the historical story of the written word. Students have also taken centre stage in offering opportunities this week as BTEC Business students ran mini-businesses based around food, which raised money for Cancer Research UK.
Our EHub has been transformed this week into a spectacular exhibition on the role of women in a variety of industries and situations. Students of all genders have been encouraged to visit this empowering space, and we look forward to the transition of content over the next two weeks. This has been led by Cathy Davies who regularly curates such dynamic exhibitions at DLD College.
The results were in this week with flying colours as DLD students discovered their EPQ results. The Extended Programme Qualification is a prestigious research-based external qualification that is highly valued by both universities and employers. We are proud to announce our results of 100% at A*/A grades. We are extremely proud of the hard work and commitment of all those students, and a proud moment also for Daniel Woodley who leads this programme at DLD College London.
