Marking World Book Day

14th March 25

We marked World Book Day in a truly unique and interactive way, welcoming Russell Frost (@hooksmith) into the school for live demonstrations of traditional printing techniques.

Russell, an expert in the art of printing, captivated students and staff with a live showcase of his printing press in the atrium, demonstrating the intricate craftsmanship involved in book production before the digital age. His demonstrations provided fascinating insights into the history of typography and the precision required in hand-printing.

Students had the opportunity to try their hand at printing, creating their own bespoke artwork to commemorate the day. The hands-on experience allowed them to connect with the timeless craft of printmaking and appreciate the evolution of book production.

We were delighted to host such an inspiring and educational event, reinforcing the importance of books and creativity in today’s world. World Book Day continues to be a celebration of literature, imagination, and learning, and this year’s event truly brought the magic of storytelling to life.

FUN FACT: capital letters (used less frequently) were stored in the upper case, while smaller, more frequently used letters were in the lower case hence the terms ‘upper and lower case’.
