Year 9 Students Explore the Future of Technology with Virtual Reality Experience

29th November 24

A group of eager Year 9 students had the opportunity to step into the future of technology during a recent visit to a cutting-edge Virtual Reality (VR) experience in London. The immersive event, held at Sandbox, provided the students with an exciting and educational journey into the world of VR.

The event engaged young minds with the latest innovations in digital technology and to inspire them about the possibilities of VR in education, entertainment, and beyond. The students donned VR headsets and were transported into the Star Trek universe that captured their imaginations.

A Glimpse into the Virtual World

This session gives students a glimpse into virtual reality technology, how it works, and its potential applications. The students then participated in a series of hands-on activities and challenges. Shout outs to Artem who was the student MVP in these games and Heitor who was the most accurate with virtual phasers!

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Teachers noted how the trip was an invaluable complement to their curriculum. “Virtual reality opens up a whole new world for students to explore concepts that would otherwise be hard to grasp in a traditional classroom setting,” explained Lauren Moors, Assistant Principal (Academic) who accompanied the group. “We can now take them on a journey to the past, present, or even the future, all within the span of a few hours.”

The visit also aligned with the school’s focus on incorporating technology into everyday learning and making London our classroom with a wide range of experiences and educational offerings across the city. The VR experience was seen as a perfect way to encourage creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork, as students had to collaborate and solve problems during their virtual missions.

A Future of Possibilities

As technology continues to advance, the integration of virtual reality into education is likely to grow, offering students even more innovative ways to learn and explore. Year 9 students returned to DLD with a sense of wonder and excitement, eager to see where their own futures might take them in this ever-evolving digital age.
