DLD students have once again excelled in the ISA Comic Strip Competition! This is a remarkable achievement that continues a fantastic run of award wins for the DLD Art Department and demonstrates the quality of teaching and ability of our students. Congratulations to all those students who submitted entries. Results are listed below:
Highly Commended: Lena C, DLD College London
Second Place: Chloe S, DLD College London
First Place: Raniya N, DLD College London
With hundreds of students applying, to collect first, second and third place in KS5 is an incredible achievement for the students. They provided an excellent response to the brief focusing on a hero from history and sticking to the conventions of a comic strip.
Please see below the feedback from our judge (the Cartoon Museum) on all our submissions:
KS1 – Rafael: A very imaginative take on the theme of friendship, unlike all the others.
KS2 – Alexa: It really conveyed emotion, especially the close-up face in panel two. Also, a great title, ‘Don’t defend them, befriend them’.
KS3 – Nancy: This blew me away(!) An incredible amount of detail that must have taken her ages. And I remember a comic-strip from the early 70s called ‘The Full House’ which every week showed a big drawing of a house with funny things going on in each room. I’m sure she’s never seen it, it’s very obscure, but this is like that x1000! Nancy is definitely going to do well.
KS4-5 – Raniya: Very simple, very clever, very funny. It made me laugh.
Our partner, the Cartoon Museum, is kindly offering to your pupil’s whole class a free workshop at the museum. To find out more details and arrange the workshop, please contact Steve Marchant learning@cartoonmuseum.org
