Earlier this year, we caught up with Head of School, Jess who shared her experience of studying at DLD College London, including the support available, Alpha Scholars programme and Extended Project Qualifications (EPQ’s).
What support is available at DLD?
“There’s a lot of support here at DLD, when studying for you’re A Levels or any other form of qualification be that your personal tutors, your university admissions tutor, you even have student mentors that are around to help you and they’re all really great at getting you through such an important time.”
“Every student gets a university admissions tutor to help them with their application process for university, whether that be in the UK or internationally. They’ll help you with the early stages of picking a university to apply for…they’ll also help you with the later stages of writing your personal statement and submitting your application to UCAS”.
What is the Alpha Scholars Program?
“A great leadership opportunity here at DLD is the Alpha Scholars Program, it’s a great experience because it challenges you and helps you become a great leader. It encourages you to look outside of your typical studies, for example last year I did a webinar on a topic of my choice, it was great because I got to research something I was passionate about and share that with others”.
What is an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)?
“Another academic opportunity here at DLD, is the EPQ which is a dissertation and presentation on an academic subject of your choice, that means it can be on pretty much anything, so I did mine on education. I have a friend who did theirs on engineering and another on biology, so there are many different options that you can choose to write about. It’s a great experience because it helps your university application and is a really pleasant break in your typical schedule where you get to do something that you really enjoy.”
The past two years DLD students have achieved 100% A*-A grades in their EPQs!
What is your favorite thing about DLD?
“My favorite thing about DLD is the strong sense of community. There are so many people around willing to help you and they’re so friendly…it quickly becomes like a second home, especially if you’re a boarder as well”.
You might also be interested in hearing from another of DLD’s students, Petya, who has shared her experience of life at DLD College London, the variety of co-curricular activities and the leadership opportunities available at the school.
